Are Metal Braces the “In” Thing Today?

blue Ivy in braces

Grayslake, IL – The social media world was recently afire when a picture of Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of perhaps the most famous parents in the world, Beyonce and Jay-Z, was featured sporting standard metal braces. A debate erupted among social media users – how could these parents, who have so much money and access to the best healthcare in the world, really have their precious Blue Ivy in metal braces?

“It’s quite simple really,” says Dr. Michael Stosich. “Beyonce and Jay-Z clearly did their homework and have an experienced and well-trained orthodontist who knew that metal braces were in this case the most efficient and effective treatment option.”

Social media users speculated as to why Blue Ivy and her parents would choose metal braces over more aesthetically pleasing options, such as Invisalign. Clearly money isn’t an issue at play here, so is there something else?

Dr. Stosich explains a few reasons why Blue Ivy’s parents may have chosen for her to have standard metal braces.

  1. Today’s metal braces are much sleeker than ever before, making them less noticeable.
  2. Patients can personalize their treatment through the colorful rubber bands that hold the wire to the bracket. Blue Ivy clearly follows in her mom’s fashionable footsteps, so why not show off some personality while in treatment?
  3. Metal braces are the most durable option, built to be strong and tough.
  4. Even the most complex problems can be corrected using metal braces.

“Without having examined Blue Ivy, I don’t know what her diagnosis was, so I cannot speak to whether another type of treatment may have also been able to achieve a desirable outcome,” says Dr. Stosich. “But from years of experience, I can tell you that metal braces are the most efficient and effective at treating even the most severe malocclusions. Some options, such as Invisalign, just can’t achieve the same results when up against a difficult case.”

One Twitter user said it best: “Blue Ivy’s parents have all the money in the world and access to the best orthodontists and she’s wearing regular, schmegular braces. Clearly the original has to be the best.”

And clearly Jay-Z and Beyonce understand how important orthodontic care is for the overall health of their daughter.

Children should visit an orthodontist for the first time at the age of seven, and at 9, Blue Ivy and her parents are setting a great example for other patients. Orthodontic treatment not only helps to straighten a smile, but it also corrects bite issues, and sets children up for a lifetime of both good oral health and positive self-esteem. Blue Ivy is on her way to a beautiful, healthy and stable bite that will last a lifetime.

And metal braces will be the reason why – so before you insist you can’t be caught in metal braces, remember that the daughter of two of the most famous people in the world happily sports her metal braces!
