Dr. Stosich points out that not all children who have state insurance will qualify for free orthodontic treatment, however. But even if your child isn’t eligible for completely free treatment, you may still be able to have part of the treatment covered. All Illinois children under the age of 20 qualify to be considered for assistance with the cost of braces.
“Not all orthodontic treatment is eligible under public aid,” says Dr. Stosich. “Early interceptive treatment, palatal expansion, and other fixed and removable appliances are not covered. That means you’ll have to wait until all of your child’s baby teeth must have fallen out and the permanent teeth have come in before free treatment can start. If we recommend early treatment, you would be responsible for the cost of it.”
