Does Your Practice Need Direction?

orthodontic practice direction

When it comes to running a successful practice, there is a lot involved. But no matter how hard you work at everything else, if your practice lacks direction, you may find yourself veering off course. So how do you find that direction and instill it throughout the practice? Stosich Consulting is here to help.

Begin by looking at your practice and what makes you unique. This perspective should be the guiding force of your practice. These attributes that set you apart need to be promoted, not only in marketing efforts, but within your staff. Each member of your team should play a key role in helping to further the mission of your practice. But they can only do this if they know the mission themselves.

If your practice doesn’t currently have both a mission statement and a vision statement that guide your daily work, now is the time to create them. These are statements that not only let your patients and future patients know what to expect from your practice, they also tell your staff members what to expect.

Your entire team should be unified around ensuring that the mission and vision statements are fulfilled each day, with every patient interaction, as well as with their interactions with each other. If every member of the team is focused on completing the same mission, your practice will run much smoother than if each employee is out for themselves.

This leads to building a culture of unity. Your team should feel that they are just that – a team and a family. On a team, each player may have a different role, but they must work together and support one another in order to win. You know the says “there is no I in team” and while it may sound cliché, it is absolutely true. Your staff is a team, and each member must be willing to do their part to help the team win.

This starts with creating clear expectations for every team member. Detailed job descriptions that outline your expectations are important so that each team member knows what role they are intended to play. When each feels like they are a valued member of the team serving an important role, this will help them feel empowered to carry out the mission of the practice.

If you feel your practice lacks a clear direction, but aren’t sure where to start, Stosich Consulting is here to help. Our consultants have experience leading their own successful orthodontic practices and can help you determine the best way to guide your team to success.
