February Is National Children’s Dental Health Month
GURNEE, WAUKEGAN AND GRAYSLAKE, ILLINOIS – “This month we are celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month”, says the Grayslake adult orthodontist, Dr. Michael Stosich.
Each year the American Dental Association sponsors this event to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. The 2012 NCDHM theme is “Rock Your Smile”.
Starting a good oral hygiene regime early can give your child a great start to having healthy gums and teeth for life. The ADA website has free online resources that can help you teach your child about oral health. Also, there are fun coloring and activity sheets to keep your child busy.
The goal of the NCDHM campaign is to gather thousands of dental professionals and health care providers to give good oral hygiene tips to children, adults and many others.
To parents of children in braces, make sure your child is practicing proper oral hygiene. Orthodontic appliances, brackets and orthodontic retainers can create a hiding place for bacteria and food.
“Brushing and flossing is extremely important for those in braces,” says Dr. Michael Stosich, a Grayslake adult and pediatric orthodontics provider. “Not doing so can result in cavities and gum inflammation.”
If your child is struggling with his/her oral hygiene, visit your local family orthodontist to get a few tips. Once the braces come off, brushing and flossing can become easier to accomplish daily.
